Legal Services

This law office provides the following general legal services including but not limited to:

Bankruptcy

One of the main purposes of Bankruptcy Law is to give a person or business who is hopelessly burdened with debt a fresh start by discharging, or eliminating, their debts.

Debtor & Creditor

In some cases your attorney can contact creditors on your behalf and negotiate lowering your payments and debt without the need to file bankruptcy. The process of when to negotiate with creditors directly or when to file Bankruptcy is an important issue to be considered. There are also federal and state laws that can protect you against aggressive creditors who may be violating your rights. There is also an important distinction between unsecured debt such as credit card debt and secured debt such as your home mortgage.

Personal Injury

If you have been seriously injured by another person for example in a car accident or injured at someone’s place of business your legal rights may have been violated and you may have an actionable wrong that can be pursued by your attorney. These situations can be complicated and expensive to pursue. Each situation is unique and needs to be evaluated on a case by case basis.

Litigation

Litigation can take place in a variety of court settings and may best be described as a contest in a court of justice for the purpose of enforcing a right. It is sometimes called a judicial contest, a judicial controversy or a suit at law. This law office provides civil litigation services. We do not provide criminal legal services at this time.

Some people feel embarrassed to ask for help with aggressive creditors or to consider bankruptcy to alleviate the stress of debt.

Quite to the contrary, as an Iowa bankruptcy attorney, I feel that federal and state laws are in place to help people get out of debt, to get a "fresh start" and to achieve a new beginning for themselves and their families.

Contracts

Contracts can best be described as a promissory agreement between two or more persons that creates, modifies or destroys a legal relationship. It is further described as an agreement, upon sufficient compensation, to do or not do a particular thing. Where significant funds, obligations and responsibilities are involved the safest advice is to have the agreement reviewed by your attorney before you sign it to make sure your rights are being protected and that you clearly understand the obligations you are entering into.

Corporate law is meant here to include corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies and sole proprietorships.
